This sample funnel chart graphically displays the phases of development of a new concept from raw idea to launch. For each of the three phases (Alpha- Definition, Beta -Evaluation and Strategy, Gamma-Refinement) there are important tasks to be done. Often an inventor, unaware of the requirements of the other circles of the 3 circle model, will jump quickly to the next phase leaving important tasks undone.
Or he may get bad advice from well meaning individuals,( like "write a business plan") when he is at a far too early stage to do so [a business plan is required in Gamma, but should not be attempted in Alpha]. This chart shows the chart prepared for Wilbur Shirttail by BML- Each task is scored on a 1-5 scale with 5 being completed. In this example Wilbur has completed one task in Beta while he has skipped a great deal of Alpha. We would recommend he complete the Alpha tasks before proceeding. The summary scores at the top show how much of each phase has been done. The blue circle indicates the overall state of the project.
